OpenAI is among the world’s largest and most technologically advanced firms that work on Artificial Intelligence. ChatGPT, a good competitor of Gemini AI, is the firm’s most popular product and you might know it very well. In a recent move, the AI-based firm has imposed a ban on China-based developers and has blocked their access to OpenAI and its services. However, this is not going to impact the local AI sector negatively.
Open AI’s decision to ban China-based developers will profit the local AI sector
After OpenAI announced that it was going to ban all the China-based developers, the CEO of Qihoo 360, Zhou Hongyi came forward and released a statement which revealed many interesting things. According to him, this move by OpenAI will push the local AI sector further and will motivate the developers to work on the local market and improve it.
Well, the OpenAI’s services were never officially available in the country but developers were still accessing it using VPNs and APIs. The new ban will now make sure that it will never work in China, even if anyone uses any kind of workarounds.

The Qihoo 360 has also developed its large language model (LLM). Not only this, several other Chinese firms have come forward and are offering good incentives to attract developers. This was their part of the reaction to the OpenAI’s ban.
For instance, one of the Chinese firms based in Beijing “Zhipu AI” has launched a program called “Special House Moving Plan.” This plan is aimed at offering a transition to the developer and making them switch to the brand. Many other firms like Alibaba and Baidu are also offering numerous perks, freebies and other technical stuff to the developers. This goes to show that Chinese market is taking the OpenAI’s ban in a far positive way.
